Map of Union County, Pennsylvania
Thomas H. Paschall & James Kelly, 1856
This is a high-resolution image (on CD) of a Wall map of Union County, PA published in 1856. These wall maps were the precursors of the later County Atlases published for most areas around the Centennial in 1876. These wall maps are exceptionally rare, even more so than the later County Atlases, and are just as useful. This map provides a detail of the township boundaries, towns, roads, churches, businesses, and topography of the county, including streams and mountains. The most useful feature of this map however, is the notation of the residents of the county, showing where the landowners lived in 1855-56. Around the central map of the County, there are also layouts of the county's towns: Hartleton, Lewisburg, Mifflinburg, New Berlin, and New Columbia, as well as a few illustrations of some of the businesses and institutions of the county.
