Map of Adams Co., Pennsylvania G. M. Hopkins, C.E., 1858
This is a high-resolution image of a Wall map of Adams County, PA published in 1858. These wall maps were the precursors of the later County Atlases published for most areas around the Centennial in 1876. These wall maps are exceptionally rare, even more so than the later County Atlases, and are just as useful. This map provides a detail of the township boundaries, towns, roads, railroads, and topography of the county, including streams and mountains. But the most desirable quality of these maps is the notation of the County's residents, providing a record of who owned land and where they resided. This information is recorded throughout the entire county, towns as well as the townships. Larger diagrams are provided on the perimeter of the map for the towns of Abbottstown, Arendtsville, Bendersville, East Berlin, Fairfield, Gettysburg, Hampton, Heidlersburg, Hunterstown, Littlestown, McSherrystown, Middletown, Mummasburg, New Chester, New Oxford, and Petersburg.
