This is a high-resolution image of a Wall map of Butler County, PA published in 1858. These wall maps were the precursors of the later County Atlases published for most areas around the Centennial in 1876. These wall maps are exceptionally rare, even more so than the later County Atlases, and are just as useful. This map provides a detail of the township boundaries, towns, roads, railroads, and topography of the county, including streams and mountains. But the most desirable quality of these maps is the notation of the County's residents, providing a record of who owned land, where they resided and an outline of their parcel(s). Also noted by symbols are the locations throughout the county of Furnaces, Factories, Mills, Churches and Schools.
