It relates a detailed history of the county from the colonial days of Pennsylvania up through the years to the time of publication in 1881. It covers the early pioneers who settled the area, the formation of its villages, towns and townships, its commercial, agricultural and industrial development, war history, etc. It also includes numerous biographical sketches of it influential citizens and many portraits and other illustrations.
