Adams County Pennsylvania Collection #3

This collection consists of various historical maps, atlases and images featuring Adams County, PA and its towns.  In addition to this collection, Adams County Collection #1 & #2 include many other publications for research, such as historical and biographical volumes, town and township histories, church histories, military histories and others.   These additional set of information can be found in the PA-Genealogy Store, along with many other titles of interest.

1) Map of Adams Co., Pennsylvania
G. M. Hopkins, C.E., 1858
Being offered is a high-resolution image (on CD) of a Wall map of Adams County, PA published in 1858.  These wall maps were the precursors of the later County Atlases published for most areas around the Centennial in 1876.  These wall maps are exceptionally rare, even more so than the later County Atlases, and are just as useful.  This map provides a detail of the township boundaries, towns, roads, railroads, and topography of the county, including streams and mountains.  But the most desirable quality of these maps is the notation of the County's residents, providing a record of who owned land and where they resided.  This information is recorded throughout the entire county, towns as well as the townships.  Larger diagrams are provided on the perimeter of the map for the towns of Abbottstown, Arendtsville, Bendersville, East Berlin, Fairfield, Gettysburg, Hampton, Heidlersburg, Hunterstown, Littlestown, McSherrystown, Middletown, Mummasburg, New Chester, New Oxford, and Petersburg.

2) Atlas of Adams Co., Pennsylvania
I. W. Field & Co., 1872, 35 pages
This publication is a historical Atlas of Adams County, PA reproduced in PDF format on CD.  Pennsylvania county atlases are expensive and difficult to find, but here you can have the information at your disposal for a fraction of the cost.  These township maps provide a detail of the township boundaries, towns, roads, and topography of the county, including streams and mountains.  They also show where homes, churches, cemeteries and businesses were located.  But the most desirable quality of these maps is the notation of the County's residents, providing a record of who owned land and where they lived.  Two other nice features of this atlas are located at the end of the atlas.  The first is a business directory of the county, listing hundreds of the county's businesses.   The second is entitled: "Principal Professional and Business Men and Producers of Adams County, PA."  It is a list of farmers with a notation for each of the amount of acres they farmed, what type of produce they grew, and the year they settled in the county.

Township Maps:
